​The 881st Troop Command, of Sturgis, provides command and control and supervision for 10 units and detachments totaling over 350 Soldiers in three communities throughout South Dakota. With about 35 assigned members, the 881st Headquarters and Headquarters Battery serves as a higher headquarters to assist units in training, administrative and logistical needs to achieve readiness and deployment requirements.

The 881st serves as the command element for Task Force 881 and supports civil authorities in emergency and disaster response. Its TF units support civil authorities in the protection of life, property and preservation of peace, order and public safety by order of the governor and act as a response force for homeland security.
