State Command Chief Master Sgt. - Chief Master Sgt. Jean Gacke

Chief Master Sergeant Jeanne M. Gacke is currently the State Command Chief for the State of South Dakota. In this role she is primary advisor to the Assistant Adjutant for Air on all matters relating to the enlisted matters affecting training, health of the force and enlisted professional development.

Prior to selection as Command Chief, she was the Security Forces Manager, 114 Security Forces Squadron, 114 Fighter Wing, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. As the Security Forces Manager, she is primarily responsible for the day to day management of 33 security personnel made of both Air National Guard and Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office personnel who provide installation security as well as 44 traditional guardsmen. She is responsible for developing local instructions and procedures for all security forces functions as well as managing the installation security system

After graduating from Brandon Valley High School in 1983, Chief Gacke enlisted in the United States Air Force in May 1984 under the delayed entry program. She entered her Active Duty Air Force commitment in August 1984, graduating from Basic Military Training in October and Security Police Technical School in December 1984. She was stationed at Lowry AFB, Denver, Colorado, from January 1985 until July 1986 fulfilling the duties of Installation Entry Controller, Installation Patrol and Law Enforcement Desk Sergeant. In July 1986 she had a primary change of station to Kunsan AB, Republic of Korea, where she was A Flight’s Law Enforcement Desk Sergeant. In July 1987, she returned to the United States and was stationed at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota where she served as Installations Entry Controller, Law Enforcement Patrol and Desk Sergeant as well as the Non Commissioned Office in Charge of Confinement, Resource Protection and Law Enforcement Operations.

Chief Gacke separated from Active Duty in 1993 returning to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she worked for Citibank as well as attended South Dakota State University graduating in 1996. In January 2000, she enlisted in the South Dakota Air National Guard, 114 Security Forces Squadron where she served in a variety of positions as Assistant Training Non-Commissioned Officer, Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge of Plans and Programs and Operations Superintendent. Chief Gacke enrolled at University of Nebraska Kearney in January 2010 and received her Master’s Degree in History in February 2016. She has served as an Adjunct Professor for Bellevue University since May 2008. Chief Gacke has served in support of the Gulf War, Operation NOBLE EAGLE, Operation EAGER TIGER and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
